C11000 ETP Copper: Properties, Applications & Global Supply Guide
Electrolytic Tough Pitch (ETP) Copper, designated as C11000 under the UNS system, is the most widely used copper grade in the world, accounting for approximately 80% of all refined copper consumption. Its combination of high electrical conductivity (100% IACS minimum), excellent formability, and cost-effectiveness makes it the default choice for electrical, construction, and industrial applications.
What Is C11000 ETP Copper?
C11000 copper is refined through an electrolytic process that achieves a minimum purity of 99.90% copper. The “tough pitch” designation refers to the controlled oxygen content (0.02-0.04%) that enhances the metal’s structure and workability. Unlike oxygen-free grades, ETP copper contains fine copper oxide particles that act as grain refiners during hot working, improving mechanical properties without significantly compromising electrical performance.

Applications of C11000 ETP Copper
Electrical and Electronics
Bus bars, switchgear components, electrical connectors, transformer windings, and motor windings benefit from C11000’s excellent conductivity and formability.
Construction and Architecture
Roofing, flashing, gutters, downspouts, and architectural cladding take advantage of copper’s corrosion resistance and aesthetic appeal.
Plumbing and HVAC
Water pipes, fittings, heat exchanger tubes, and refrigeration components rely on C11000’s corrosion resistance and thermal conductivity. However, C12200 (DHP) is often preferred for welding applications.
Industrial Manufacturing
Gaskets, stampings, chemical processing equipment, and anodes for electroplating are common industrial uses.
