  • Drop-weight tear test (DWTT) for pipeline steels
  • Nil-ductility transition temperature (NDTT) assessment
  • Crack arrest toughness requirements for crack propagation prevention

Quality Assurance and Certification

Marine steel requires full classification society certification:

  • Mill inspection – Classification society surveyor witnesses sampling and testing
  • Chemical analysis – Ladle analysis and product analysis verification
  • Mechanical testing – Tensile, impact, bend, and hardness tests per classification rules
  • Ultrasonic testing – Internal quality verification per EN 10160, SEP 1921, or ASTM A435
