Understanding the Profile Differences

The fundamental difference between H-beams and I-beams lies in their cross-sectional geometry. H-beams feature wider flanges with equal thickness throughout, creating a profile that resembles the letter H. I-beams, also known as universal beams, have tapered flanges that are thicker at the web and thinner at the outer edges, creating a more traditional I-shaped cross section.

Common grades include Q235B/Q345B (Chinese), SS400 (Japanese), S235JR/S355JR (European), and A36/A992 (American).
